Engineers honored by geotechnical advocacy organization

The United States Universities Council on Geotechnical Education and Research (USUCGER) recently awarded Chris Swan, associate professor of civil and environmental engineering and Dean of Undergraduate Education for Tufts School of Engineering, and alum James Kaklamanos, now an associate professor of civil engineering at Merrimack College, for their contributions to the field of geotechnical engineering.

Swan received a 2021 USUCGER Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Award, recognizing him as a champion of diversity, equity, and inclusion in the field of geotechnical engineering. At Tufts, he has taken a leading role in solidifying the School of Engineering’s commitments to diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice.

Triple Jumbo Kaklamanos earned his BS, MS, and PhD from Tufts University's Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and now teaches at Merrimack College. He received a 2021 USUCGER Early Career Educator Award in recognition of his demonstrated excellence in teaching and for the geotechnical engineering community. Kaklamanos was also recently featured in an article by the Seismological Society of America. 

The United States Universities Council on Geotechnical Education and Research advocates for the continued development and expansion of high quality geotechnical, geomechanical, and geo-environmental engineering education and research.
